US AGREED NOT TO DIE
2018-2019
Performance, Flag
Presented in various occasions across the years of 2018 and 2019, mostly as a solo performance, and once as a collective performance.
US AGREED NOT TO DIE is an interdisciplinary project inspired by the namesake short story by Brazilian writer Conceição Evaristo, whose work addresses violence, resilience, and necropolitics with an Afro-diasporic, imaginative lens. In the performance, improvised knives are manufactured with ordinary materials such as wood sticks, shoelaces, and shattered glass. The action is accompanied by a reading session, evoking a plurality of voices of many origins and times. After the performance, the knives are sewed into flags. There are currently three flags.
Flag #1 lives in the KADIST Collection.
