2024

Solo show presented in Galeria Martins & Montero, São Paulo (BR) in April 2024 and Brussels (BE) in May 2024.

SABERÁ / AS FILHAS DO MENOR CHUVISCO (YOU WILL KNOW / THE DAUGHTERS OF THE DRIEST RAIN) takes up a body of work presented in 2020 at the Sydney Biennale,  to reconstruct and expand its scope. The exhibition starts by listening to the song Djaniras - composed by Israel Semente and Xangai, and performed by Cátia de França on her iconic album Vinte Palavras Girando ao Redor do Sol (1979) - and extends towards a speculation on the uncertainty of rain and the figurations of survival in the contemporary Brazilian Northeastern imaginary. Instead of a re-presentation of drought (a founding characteristic of the intra-colonial imaginary of this region), the show aims to think about the scenes produced not by the lack, but by the excess of water throughout the territory: floods and floods that spill into the streets, often derived from a rainfall cycle deeply affected by the climate change on a planetary level.
