BUT I HAVE NOTHING BEAUTIFUL TO GIVE
Sculptural Installation, Textile Work, Drawing and Sound
Presented in the group presentation “Illiberal Lives” at Ludwig Forum, Aachen (DE), curated by Eva Birkenstock, Kerstin Stakemeier and Anselm Franke
BUT I HAVE NOTHING BEAUTIFUL TO GIVE borrows its title from Glenn-Copeland’s 70s song “Nothing Beautiful”. The installation focus on the Amsterdam canals, where most of the works presented were previously sunken. With special attention to the underwater accumulation of mud, the work articulates the presence of mud at the bottom of the canals as a material expression of abjection in the context of Dutch water control systems and its Modern obsessions.
